Your homepage has one job: help the right people understand what you do and get in touch. Most people decide within a few seconds whether to stay, so here's our checklist for making those seconds count.
1. A headline that says what you do
Not a slogan. A clear sentence that tells visitors what you offer and who it's for. "Handmade cakes for weddings in Hexham" beats "Welcome to our website" every time.
2. One obvious next step
Decide the one thing you want people to do, like book a call, get a quote or shop the range, and make it a big, bright button near the top. If everything is a button, nothing is.
3. Proof that you're good at it
Photos of your real work, a couple of reviews from happy customers, or logos of people you've worked with. People trust what other people say about you more than what you say about yourself.
4. Who you are and where to find you
A friendly photo and a few lines about you go a long way, especially for small businesses. Add your area, opening hours if you have them, and an easy way to contact you.
5. It works beautifully on a phone
Most of your visitors will arrive from social media on their phone. Check your homepage on yours: is the text easy to read, do the buttons work with a thumb, and does it load quickly?
A great homepage doesn't need to say everything. It needs to say the right thing, clearly.
Ticked them all? Brilliant. Missing a few? That's exactly the kind of thing we help with.
