Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and what we do with it. Written in plain English.

Who we are

This website is run by Melissa Jones, a sole trader trading as Lemonade Studios ("we", "us" and "our" in this policy), based in the North East of England. We're the "data controller" for any personal information you share with us, which means we're responsible for looking after it.

You can contact us about anything in this policy at hello@lemonadestudios.uk.

What we collect

  • When you fill in the contact form: your name, email address, business name (if you give it), the service you're interested in and your message.
  • When you email us or become a client: your contact details, the information you share about your business and project, and the details we need to invoice you.
  • When you visit the site: Our hosting provider keeps basic technical logs (such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to keep the site running and secure. We don't use these to identify you.

We don't use cookies for tracking or advertising, and we don't run analytics on this site. The fonts and code are served from this website itself, not from third parties.

Why we use it

  • To reply to your enquiry and talk about your project. This is in our legitimate interests, and it's a step you've asked us to take before we agree to work together.
  • To do the work you've hired us for, including sending designs, invoices and updates. This is needed to carry out our contract.
  • To keep business and tax records, as the law requires.

We'll never sell your information or add you to a mailing list without asking first.

Who else sees it

We only share what's needed with the services we use to run our business:

  • Website hosting and forms: Netlify, which hosts this site and receives contact form messages. Netlify is based in the USA and protects data transferred from the UK with approved legal safeguards.
  • Email: Our email provider, which stores the messages we send each other.
  • AI tools: We use AI tools to help us design and build. We only share the project information needed for the work, never more, and we use settings that stop our content being used to train AI models.
  • Accounting: Our accountant or accounting software, for invoices and tax.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that don't turn into a project: up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Client project files and emails: for as long as we work together, and up to 2 years after, so we can help with any follow-up changes.
  • Invoices and financial records: 6 years, as HMRC requires.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the information we hold about you
  • correct anything that's wrong
  • delete your information (unless we have to keep it by law)
  • stop or limit how we use it
  • send your information to you or someone else in a usable format

Just email hello@lemonadestudios.uk and we'll reply within one month. It's free.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
